GONZALES, LA (NBC33) — Ascension Parish is welcoming its latest multi-million dollar development.
Today, ground was broken on the first phase of the new River Parishes Community College campus. The campus should be open by next spring and will be home to several academic courses.
System President Joe Mays says the campus has been forced to expand because of the growing demand for technically trained people.
"More and more employers right here in the river parishes area are looking for people, many times that have a certificate or an associates degree and with those they can get a great paying job right here in their own community," he said.
The majority of the funding for the project is coming from the state and was approved by the legislature.
