Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The federal government is giving Louisiana almost $10 million to help fix failing schools.
The funds come from a nationwide grant program, and will impact 200,000 kids in failing schools all across the state.
Louisiana was one of ten states to see some of the money, but there's no word on how much will go to failing schools here in EBR Parish.
One parent told NBC33 that the grant money is a step in the right direction.
“I think that's good that they are doing this,” said parent Celina Scott. “I think they need to do even more to help the kids - anything to help the kids.”
The $10 million federal grant is in addition to $5 million coming from state grant money. All $15 million will go toward helping failing schools.
