LSU’s Lolo Jones stumbled and missed out on a medal in the 100 meter hurdles at the Beijing Olympics. But she's earned another award, this one for contributions off the track.
Jones is USA Track and Field's Humanitarian Athlete of the Year. The former Fighting Tiger will be honored Saturday during a ceremony in Reno, Nevada.
After winning at the US Olympic Trials, Jones donated her prize money -- four thousand dollars -- to a single mother from her native Iowa that was a victim of this summer's floods. Her sponsors matched that donation, giving that family 12 thousand dollars total.
Jones also donated new spikes to every girl on her high school alma mater's track team and helped repair the facilities at Roosevelt High in Des Moines.
Plus, she's active in USA Track and Field's “Win with Integrity” program.
