LOUISIANA (NBC33) — Officials are warning Louisiana residents about a possible online scam regarding driver’s license renewals.
Rep. Tim Burns (R-Mandeville) issued an alert on Wednesday, March 13 about the website LouisianaDriversLicense(org). He says he was made aware of the site from a constituent who was duped for $14 by the License Easy Guide.
We’re told the site uses paid search engine rankings to be listed first when citizens search for the terms related to online driver’s license renewals. The site, however, is not official, which is stated at the top of the site.
“The website contains options such as new license, renew license and update license,” a release explained. “There is a link for the online application and checklist, which takes you to another website that then asks you to fill out personal information, including credit card information. However, after payment, the user is merely directed to the official site.”
Rep. Burns has requested the Attorney General’s office to investigate.
