The Baton Rouge Rugby Club will be teaching some of BREC's Summer Campers how to play flag rugby on Wednesday, July 21, from 9am - 12pm at the North Sherwood BREC facility. This is the final week of BREC's summer camps, and the last BREC camp that flag rugby will be taught this summer. It was previously taught at 8 other BREC camps earlier in the summer, in which the campers all had a great time learning this new sport.
Flag rugby is a fun, non-contact way to teaching people the benefits of exercise and teamwork that can be learned through the game of rugby. It has been developed as a way to develop youth through rugby (www.playrugbyusa.com , www.tryrugby.net ), a sport that prides itself on friendship, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The flag rugby program can easily be adapted for use in PE curriculums or sport camps, as it is very cheap to implement - you just need a ball.
The camp on Wednesday is a great opportunity for action photos and videos. In addition to the BREC summer camps, the Baton Rouge Rugby Club is interested in hosting more flag rugby camps throughout the city for groups, camps, and schools.
