BATON ROUGE,LA(NBC33) — Barbeque big timers got a chance to show off their grilling skills saturday at the sams club national barbeque competition.
28 teams turned up the heat. Several local teams fought to be the king of the grill. Cooks had to create the perfect: chicken ribs pork and brisket to get to the top spot. Each teams bbq dishes gets scored on appearance taste and tenderness. wining isn't easy.
"These competitors have only one bite to score big. They are judged by 6 different judge that score them on all 3 things. They've got to have a wow factor it's got to be tender. It's just got to knock you off your feet," Troy Black, host of Sam's Club National BBQ Tour, explained.
"We've got great meat great help and we season it well. We've smoked it well and hopefully we'll be successful," John Guillory, Baton Rouge griller, said.
The cooks compete for $10 thousand. The top six grillers go on to a regional competition this September in Oklahoma.
