Lake Charles, La — On February 26, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) detective conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound on I-10 near the I-210 Lake Charles Loop for a traffic violation.
After the driver of the car, Joemarko D. James, 27, of Leesville, began to act suspiciously during the traffic stop, a detective's trained and certified drug detection K9 “Basco” to conduct a free air sniff around the car.
After Basco provided a positive response to the odor of a controlled substance, a subsequent search revealed a plastic canister containing over 540 grams of cocaine in the car’s trunk, with an estimated street value of $40,000.
James was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of cocaine over 400 grams.
