Local high school wins music program grant

Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Christian Live Academy has an extra $15,000 for its band program.

They won a grant from Rack Room Shoes after they received more than 21,000 votes in the company’s “Gift of Music” video contest.

Today, they got the check.

“I’m humbled by the opportunity to win a national competition like that, especially being a small school,” stated band director Derrick Walker. “I am very excited to get things that we really, really, really need. I’m just elated."

Walker states they're going to buy some new instruments with the money they won.
