HAMMOND (WVLA) - Birds affected by the Crisis on the Coast are headed to a new place to get cleaned up and eventually back in the air.
Since the Crisis began - birds have been at the Fort Jackson Wildlife Center near Buras to get cleaned and rehabilitated.
But as we get deeper into hurricane season - BP is making the call to move the operation inland.
Pevey Construction has been contracted by BP to take a warehouse in Hammond and turn it into a Bird Rehabilitation Center - and they have until July 23rd to do it.
Workers say they know the project is a big one - but the cooperation, and their goal of seeing birds fly oil-free again is helping the process move quickly and smoothly.
