BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A meeting will be held this evening to discuss continued concern regarding the proposed breakaway school district in East Baton Rouge Parish. The public is invited to attend to provide input to the discussion.
The breakaway school district was proposed in 2012 and would have included 10 schools in the southeast part of Baton Rouge. However, it failed to gain enough votes to move forward with funding.
Those in support of the breakaway district have vowed to bring the issue up again in the 2013 Legislative Session.
One Community, One School District was formed by parents and other concerned citizens who believe that the children of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System are best served by a unified system.
The meeting of the One Community, One School District will be held at the Unitarian Church, located at 8470 Goodwood Boulevard, beginning at 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
