BATON ROUGE POLICE DEPARTMENT — The Baton Rouge Police Department kicks off it's 79th Basic Training Academy Monday morning.
The class of 30 recruits will spend the next 20 weeks learning what it takes to be a police officer. They're expected to graduate in June.
After the academy they'll be partnered up with a police veteran for field training.
The 78th basic training academy class graduated 33 officers back in December 2012.
