MARRERO, LA (NBC33) — The boyfriend of a mother in Marrero was arrested for his connection to the death of her 3-year-old child.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that Timothy Reed, 34, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 14 after he was located at a motel in New Orleans.
Investigators believe Reed is responsible for the death of the young boy. The child was found dead by his mother on Wednesday, Feb. 13. She called deputies at roughly 11:00 a.m.
When deputies arrived on scene, the mother had to climb out a bathroom window because a large iron gate on the front door was locked and she did not have a key to open it. Officials say the home smelled like gas and they found gasoline around the home.
We’re told the child had small signs of trauma, but the exact cause of death was not clear. An autopsy was performed and the exact cause of death was listed as homicidal asphyxiation.
The child’s mother was questioned, but was quickly cleared as a suspect. Investigators turned their attention to Reed. Once he was located in New Orleans, they say he admitted to taking the boy to Mardi Gras with him the day prior to his death. They say he also admitted to being with the boy at the time of his death, but they don’t believe the confession was “completely truthful.”
Reed was arrested and booked in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. He’s charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, Attempted First-Degree Murder, and Attempted Aggravated Arson. He was also booked for Domestic Battery and Non-Payment of Child Support.
Reed has prior arrests including murder, child abuse and rape.
