NEW ORLEANS, LA (WDSU-CNN) — Some of the more than 3,000 passengers aboard a stranded Carnival Cruise ship will arrive in New Orleans Thursday as part of their trip home.
The Carnival Triumph has been stranded at sea since Sunday after a fire broke out in the engine room. According to Carnival, 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew members are on board.
The ship is expected to arrive in Mobile Thursday.
The cruise line said it reserved 1,500 hotel rooms for passengers in Mobile and New Orleans, and 20 chartered flights will transport passengers to Houston.
Passengers will be given the option of taking bus transport to Galveston, Texas or Houston Thursday. If not, they'll be able to stay in New Orleans Thursday night and take a flight from Armstrong International Airport to Houston on Friday.
