BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — The five page letter [2]from Mayor Kip Holden holds some pretty serious allegations about what happened under Dewayne White's time as Chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department. But Dewayne White's attorney, Jill Craft, said it's “ridiculous.”
Craft told NBC33 News that this is just a "knee-jerk reaction" from the Mayor's office after they mishandled the chief's termination. She also explained that the letter gives her a peek in to what the mayor's office is going to try to level against White in his hearing on Monday, Feb. 18 and she's ready to take them on.
"I certainly am of the opinion that hopefully we'll be able to put on our evidence and hopefully the mayor's going to be required to put on his, instead of allegations innuendo and falsehoods," Craft said.
The letter also makes it clear that White is still an employee of the city of Baton Rouge and is just on paid administrative leave, something White's lawyer said is just more back-tracking.
Craft said White is still hoping to get his job back and finish what he started.
