BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — An 18-year old male was arrested around 2:45pm this afternoon following the Spanishtown Parade after he punched a uniformed Baton Rouge Police Officer in the face at Florida and Lafayette.
The 41-year old Corporal was attempting to intervene in a fight between the suspect and another man when she was struck.
Bystanders, including an off-duty police officer from north Louisiana, detained the suspect until other officers could arrive and assist. Several people were initially detained, questioned and released.
The Corporal was transported to the Baton Rouge General Mid-City for treatment of facial injuries.
The suspect is expected to be booked, although the exact charges have not yet been determined.
