New Orleans, La (NBC33) — Human trafficking is the second-largest criminal industry in the world.
Here at home, there are trafficking hot spots in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Police worked over the Super Bowl weekend and made a multitude of arrests associated with trafficking.
A total of 80 arrests were made over that weekend as a part of Operation: Innocent Lost.
Three people were arrested on human trafficking charges; however, there are many other crimes involved with human trafficking, which is what drove the arrest number so high. Some of the arrests were made for robbery; possession of drugs, selling of drugs, etc.
A total of five victims were rescued [1] during the operation over the weekend as well.
