PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA — A Marrero man has been arrested for stealing plumbing pipe from a Plaquemines Parish fire department.
On Wednesday, Feb. 6, members of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating the theft of plumbing pipe from the Plaquemines Parish Fire Department’s – Belle Chasse Fire Station construction site.
During the investigation, Christopher Paul Schexnayder, 28, was developed as a suspect detectives learned that on the same day of the theft, Schexnayder sold 600 pounds of cast iron plumbing pipe to a Belle Chasse scrap yard for $48.
On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, officials met with a witness who positively identified the cast iron plumbing pipe that was sold by Schexnayder to Belle Chasse Scrap as the same pipe that was stolen from the Fire Department construction site in Belle Chasse. However, a majority of the cast iron plumbing pipe was either broken or already sent to a scrap yard in New Orleans and was unable to be recovered.
That same day, Schexnayder was located and agreed to be questioned. He confessed to stealing the aforementioned cast iron plumbing pipe from the construction site at around 4:00 a.m.
Schexnayder was arrested for theft and transported to the Belle Chasse Lockup and booked accordingly, where he is currently being held without bond pending a magistrate hearing.
Schexnayder has prior felony convictions in Jefferson Parish for two counts of burglary and illegal possession of stolen things, which he pled guilty to in September 2006, and felony theft, which he pled guilty to in March 2009. He also pled guilty to misdemeanor possession of marijuana in Jefferson Parish in September 2006.
