NBC NATIONAL NEWS — It's the hot topic at the White House today - amnesty for illegal immigrants in America.
The House of Representatives is getting on board. Backers for the citizenship for illegal immigrants figure they have their best chance ever to change the system.
Also, some Republicans sound more open to immigration reform after they were deserted by Latino voters in the fall.
Today, House Majority leader Eric Cantor laid out the party's plan going forward.
“A good place to start is with the kids. One of the great founding principles of our country was that children would not be punished for the mistakes of their parents,” stated Cantor. “It is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children and who know no other home."
President Obama says he'll work with Republicans on solutions to issues like education, health care and immigration.
