POINTE COUPEE PARISH, La. (NBC33) — One person has died after a wreck involving a school bus Tuesday morning.
It happened on LA 415, near LA 416, in Pointe Coupee Parish at around 7:30 a.m. State Police Trooper Jared Sandifer said an SUV crossed the center line and hit the school bus head on.
Officials tell us there were nine children and an adult aid on the bus at the time of the crash. We're told three of the children sustained minor injuries. The bus driver, Laurie Olinde, 46, was also injured. They were all transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV, Jody T. Harris, 38, of Ventress, was wearing a seatbelt, however, died at the scene.
State Police closed the stretch of road for several hours to investigate the crash. They are still working to determine what caused Harris to cross the center line.
