NBC News — Cuba's former leader Fidel Castro praised Venezuela's ailing President Hugo Chavez for his contribution to the region. Castro said Chavez has done more for freedom and union than any other person in Latin America.
He also said that Chavez was to be credited for his work in the formation of CELAC, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. Fidel Castro made the comments as he voted sunday in Havana for parliamentary candidates. The former leader appears in public only occasionally now since he fell ill in 2006 and stepped down permanently less than a year later.
