NAPOLEONVILLE, LA (NBC33) — A Napoleonville man was arrested for his fifth DWI after he took deputies on a high speed chase. It all ended when he slammed his car into the back of a vehicle being driven by a pursuing deputy.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened on Thursday, Jan. 31. Officials tell us a deputy was patrolling on Highway 308 when he noticed a speeding vehicle. The deputy also noticed the vehicle cross the centerline.
At this point the deputy activated his lights and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver sped up and reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
The chase continued through the town of Bertrandville, then continued into Iberville Parish. At one point on Highway 1, the drive slowed allegedly slowed down to make a u turn. A second deputy attempted to box in the vehicle, but the suspect ended up ramming his vehicle into the passenger side of the patrol car, causing considerable damage.
We’re told the deputy managed to exit his vehicle and fire three rounds into the tires of the suspect’s vehicle thus ending the chase.
Deputies apprehended the suspect, Marty J. Jamison, 52. Officials say a gun and an open alcoholic beverage was found in the car. The arresting deputy smelled alcohol on his breath.
Jamison refused to submit to a field sobriety test, so a warrant to have his blood drawn was obtained and is currently undergoing testing by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
Jamison was booked for Driving left of Center, Improper Lane Usage, General Speeding, 9 Counts of Stop Sign Violations, 12 Counts of No Turn Signals, 2 Counts of Traffic Control Signals, Vehicles Must Yield at Railroad Crossings, Reckless Operation, Operating a Vehicle While Under Suspension for Prior DWI, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle upon a Peace Officer, Open Container, No Seatbelt and DWI 5th Offense.
Jamison has two recent DWI and a Possession of Cocaine arrest pending in court as the result of arrests on October 8, 2012 and January 20, 2013 in Assumption Parish.
No bond has been set at this time.
