KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (KETK) — East Texas authorities are on the look out for two people officials say were involved in a shooting at the Kaufman County courthouse on Thursday morning. The courthouse is on lockdown.
The victim, the Kaufman County assistant district attorney, was taken to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of kin. Authorities say the victim was attacked and shot multiple times in the parking lot.
Kaufman County DPS officials say they have deputies on scene at the courthouse.
Smith County DPS spokesperson, Trooper Jean Dark, tells KETK that local law enforcement officers have been alerted that the shooters may be in the area.
They are looking for two men in an older model silver Ford Taurus. The license plate number is unknown. The men may be in dark colored clothing.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible.
