THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — It wasn’t a high speed chase. No lives were in danger. But a burglary suspect attempted to outrun police with an unusual mode of transportation.
The Thibodaux Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Friday, Jan. 25. We’re told the suspect, Charles Cole, 42, was spotted riding his bike down East 12th Street with several air conditioner coils on his handle bars.
Officials tell us Cole turned his bike in the opposite direction when he spotted police cars.
“When he saw police, he immediately did a 180, so the officers believed he was trying to avoid them,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said. “I don’t want to say they gave chase, but he tried to avoid them and went up and down roads in the neighborhood.”
When officers caught up with Cole, they say he appeared to be intoxicated. They asked him about the coils and why he seemed to be avoiding them, and he admitted to burglarizing the items.
Officers went to the residence and found the homeowner, who had just arrived. The homeowner told police that he was related to Cole and wished to press charges.
Cole was booked into the Lafourche Parish Prison for Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Simple Criminal Damage to Property.
