ASCENSION PARISH, LA — A high speed chase was called off in Ascension Parish to avoid public endangerment on January 28.
The pursuit was begun by members of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, who were making a routine stop on a driver for a traffic violation.
The Louisiana State Police were called in to assist, As the pursuit entered the city limits of Gonzales, a decision was made to call it off.
Louisiana State Police Public Information Officer Jared Sandifer stated, "The city limits of Gonzales is a high traffic area, and we felt it was in the safety of everyone involved to cease the pursuit. The pursuit was for a minor traffic violation, and we did not feel that was worth the possible outcome of pursuing the vehicle through the city.”
Upon the decision of the Louisiana State Police to stop the pursuit, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office did the same.
