BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Students with disabilities who want to play on traditional sports teams will now have a chance.
The Education Department says they'll either get the same shot as everyone else, or they get their own leagues. The order could bring sweeping changes to school budgets and locker rooms, and force traditional sports teams to make "reasonable modifications" to accommodate them.
The changes could cause problems, however, because if the sport has to be altered, schools might have to create parallel athletic programs.
