SCOTLANDVILLE, La (NBC33) — A long-awaited settlement has been reached, which will mean relief for some residents in Scotlandville.
The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council approved a $6 million settlement on Wednesday, Jan. 23 with a vote of 8 to 4. The money will be used to buyout the homes of residents living around the North Sewage Treatment Plant.
Residents have complained that they have dealt with health issues related to the plant for years. They say it's made their lives unbearable. However, they have been unable to negotiate and appropriate deal with the city until this time.
