ST. GABRIEL,La (NBC33) — A group in St. Gabriel got a head start on celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Distinct Royalty Social Club hosted a tribute to the civil rights leader including a march from highway thirty to the St. Gabriel community center on Sunday, Jan. 20. Afterwards the group listened to speeches and prayed.
It's the first year for the march and ceremony.
"I would love for them to know the meaning of Dr. King and know what he stood for and know that he still lives in each of us. He had a dream and that dream came true and is still coming true," Alfrica Smith, President of Distinct Royalty Social Club said.
Around fifty people participated in the event. The group plans to throw an even bigger march next year.
