CNN — If you've seen Jennifer Lawrence talk anywhere, ever, you know that the 22-year-old actress enjoys a good joke.
But it seems a quip she thought she delivered perfectly at the Golden Globe Awards ended up being misinterpreted as a diss against Meryl Streep.
In one of the best lines of Sunday night, Lawrence ascended the stage to claim her Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy or musical, and as she took her trophy said in a sing-song voice, "Oooh, what does it say? I beat Meryl!"
Some - including Lindsay Lohan, who was basically live-tweeting the awards show - mistook that as a burn. These people clearly aren't big fans of the 1996 comedy, "The First Wives Club."
"It was a quote from 'First Wives' Club' - Bette Midler was talking about a Globe, I can't believe nobody's ever done it before," Lawrence vented to David Letterman on "The Late Show" Tuesday. "It was so perfect and I said it, and I had no idea Lindsay Lohan would take it to the Twitterverse ... Is that what they call it? I'm not on Twitter."
