BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Residents of Baton Rouge have the chance to register for a new afterschool program.
The program is organized by BREC and the EBR Parish school system. It’s open to kids ages 6-12. The center will be open Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The fee for enrollment is $48 per month.
BREC hopes its new holistic approach will keep kids healthy and learn outside the classroom. It will also help foster education as it will be a place for them to do homework as well. Organizers say this is the way to help kids gain a positive future.
"What we want to do is partner as Baton Rouge looks at ways to keep our children safe and healthy,” Cheryl Michelet, BREC, said. “That’s BREC’s mission, so we think this is a perfect fit. We’re very excited that the school system is willing to work with us and were hoping by next year it will greatly expand."
Registration will begin on Thursday, Jan. 17 and continue through Friday. For more information call (225) 272-9200.
