WALKER, LA — This morning shortly before 6:15 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 447 south of I-12 at Joe May Road in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of Alan K. Vinet, 52, of Denham Springs.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Jeff D. Pratt, 44, of Walker, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer northbound on LA Hwy 447. At the same time, Vinet was driving a 1986 Toyota pickup truck southbound on LA Hwy 447. For unknown reasons, Pratt’s Explorer drifted off the roadway to the right. Pratt overcorrected, causing his vehicle to cross the centerline of LA Hwy 447 and strike Vinet’s Toyota head on.
Vinet was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Driver impairment on the part of Pratt is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from him to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
