EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A busy stretch of Perkins Road is still closed tonight.
Barricades are set up at Santa Maria and Plantation to keep people from driving over the Bayou Manchac Bridge.
Some drivers heard a rumor that the bridge was open this morning, so they went around the first set of barricades, through people's yards, leaving a muddy mess.
Conditions on the bridge are improving. One neighbor said the water had dropped about half a foot since yesterday, and the Louisiana State Police believes the road will re-open tomorrow.
People who live nearby say it's an inconvenience, but they're trying to remain positive.
"Yeah, obviously, it's very frustrating, but I understand they don't want a bunch of people trying to get through up here,” Marc Mader, resident with six feed of water in his yard, said. “It's about 5-6 high over the road."
One neighbor told us the most frustrating part is that mail carriers aren't being allowed near the bridge, so letters aren't being delivered to the handful of homes in the area.
