LIVINGSTON PARISH,LA(NBC33) — Livingston Parish is suing to get $46 million they believe they’re owed by the federal government.
They say lies, bungling and withholding of information are the reasons why FEMA’s decision to deny them the money after Hurricane Gustav should be overturned. The $46 million went towards waterway cleanup costs. The parish claims FEMA investigators ruled streams in the parish posed no flooding danger to property. This is according to an appeal supplement filed by the parish. According to reports, the appeal supplement also alleges that FEMA continues to suppress documents related to the appeal.
FEMA declined to comment on the report.
