Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — More mosquitoes could be on the way to Baton Rouge, according to the East Baton Rouge Mosquito Control.
We'll know what the exact numbers are in a couple of weeks. However, we do know that the recent heavy rains in the area though have helped to keep the total number below average for now.
“The heavy rain events can actually be useful to us because it washes out a lot of the septic ditches and road side ditches where the South Horse Mosquito might be breeding,” stated Randy Vaeth with EBR Mosquito Control. “Those heavy rains can completely scour those ditches and remove the larva and wash down to the rivers. It can actually be very beneficial for the a short time."
Officials say to remember to wear long sleeves and pants to protect yourself from mosquitos. Also, make sure to spray yourself with insect repellant to keep the insects from biting you.
