BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Baton Rouge woman was stabbed to death last night by her ex-boyfriend. A neighbor who attempted to save the woman was also stabbed.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the incident occurred at a home on 3200 block of Plank Road at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. We’re told the suspect, Jerome Murry Mellion, 52, went over to the home of his ex-girlfriend, Wanda Ortiz, 48, and the two became involved in an argument.
We’re told the suspect pulled allegedly pulled out a knife and began stabbing Ortiz several times. A neighbor witnessed what was happening and attempted to intervene. Officials say he was also stabbed once, but is expected to recover.
The woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital as a result of her injuries.
Mellion was apprehended this morning in South Baton Rouge. He was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder and Attempted First-Degree Murder.
This is the fourth reported homicide for East Baton Rouge Parish over the past 10 days.
