GONZALES,LA(NBC33) — "I have a pool in my front yard and in the backyard," Laura Lafitte, who lives on Bayou Narcisse Road in Gonzales, described. "It's so bad that when I'm driving down the road I can't tell where my drive way is."
Lafitte feels trapped at her home on Bayou Narcisse Road, heavy rains flooded near by canals and bayous. Now she's stuck watching and waiting to see just how far the water will rise.
"It's going to get a lot worse I think especially if it rains again," Lafitte exclaimed. "I may not be able to walk out my front door, because it's already up to the concrete."
It's not the first time people living and working on Bayou Narcisse Road have experienced flooding. Bob Singer's business is still in the process of cleaning up after Hurricane Isaac. The storm sent water into his office causing $40 thousand in damage.
"That it keeps doing this, at some point I'll have to move or build a bigger lobby," Singer stated.
Ascension Parish officials shut down the roadway, but there's more rain in the forecast.
Singer feels,"Powerless. Utterly powerless."
"We walk around worry that's all you can do," Singer said. "Pray a little."
People living in the area are frustrated their yards fill up after every heavy rain they want the parish to come out and do more to help with drainage.
"It would be nice if they could fix the drainage problem the ditches and everything," Lafitte believes, "Maybe make it a little bit deeper or what ever."
Singer agrees: "They need to clean the ditches. They need to have a secondary plan to move the water."
Ascension Parish Officials say all the parish pumps are working. Parish workers and Ascension Parish Sheriff's deputies will be on hand to monitor heavy street flooding throughout the night.
