NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — A repeat offender was arrested yesterday for allegedly shooting and killing a mother in front of her children. He’s also accused of opening fire on three other individuals.
The New Orleans Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Dec. 1, 2012 at a home on the 2800 block of South Roman Street. The victim, Tiara Reynolds, 26, was standing in her driveway with her children when the suspect, Larry Haynes, 28, approached her. Officials say Haynes was previously involved in a relationship with the victim.
Haynes was identified as a suspect and a Crime Stoppers tip lead detectives to his location in Kentwood.
“His crime was heinous,” Superintendent Ronal Serpas, New Orleans Police Department, said. “This was an excellent job done by Detective Garcia, who was able to work with residents to identify this suspect just days after the shooting. That enabled us to release his photo for all to see, and we knew it was only a matter of time before someone gave him up.”
Haynes was arrested at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 and was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for First-Degree Murder and three counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder. He will be transported to the Orleans Parish Jail.
Haynes has previous arrests for First-Degree Murder during a Crime, Crack and Marijuana Possession, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Firearm During a Crime, Extortion, Domestic Violence, Battery on a Police Officer, Flight from a Police Officer, Trespassing and Unauthorized Use of a Moveable.
“Looking at his lengthy record, it’s obvious that our officers have arrested this man time and time again- including on an illegal firearm charge,” Superintendent Serpas added. “He had no business walking the streets last month, and should never have had the opportunity to kill this mother in front of her children.”
