LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — Two young children were home alone when three armed robbers forced their way into the home. One man has been arrested and deputies are currently tracking down two additional suspects.
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred on Friday, Jan. 4 at roughly 5:30 p.m. Officials say a 12 and 5-year-old were alone in a home located in the 1900 block of Carmel Drive when three black males entered the house. The suspects allegedly forced the children to sit at the kitchen table while they collected items.
“The 12-year-old was tending to the 5-year-old,” Cpt. Kip Judice, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, said. “This is something no parent can plan on happening. We didn’t find anything to yield any concern regarding why the children were home alone.”
Deputies identified a vehicle matching the description provided by the children. Officials say it was the same vehicle that a deputy had taken note of a day prior due to suspicious activity. Investigators were able to track the vehicle to the home of one of the suspects.
A search was conducted at the home of Curtis James Dean, 22, of Carencro. Deputies recovered some of the stolen property from the home that was robbed. Dean was then arrested and charged with Home Invasion. He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility where he is being held on a $75,000 bond.
The two additional suspects have been identified as possibly being connected to the crime. Arrest warrants have been issued for Joseph Phillip James, 20, 5’9” tall weighing 120 pounds and Jonathan Jardell James, 19, 5’7” tall, 162 pounds. Both men are said to reside in the Lafayette area.
If you know anything regarding their whereabouts, call Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS (8477).
