BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Six juveniles have been arrested for allegedly participating in a fight that prompted a mass evacuation of the Mall of Louisiana.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reports that the male and female juveniles ranged in ages from 13-15 years old. They were charged with Remaining After Being Forbidden and Disturbance by Fistic Encounter. Two were also charged with Resisting an Officer.
The incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 5 at roughly 6:00 p.m [1]. A teen sent an invitation for a “meet and greet” via Instagram. Hundreds of teens converged at the mall and at some point a massive fight broke out, prompting the evacuation and closure.
Although no weapons were discovered, rumors of a gun being involved sparked panic among shoppers in the mall, causing a frantic exodus. Witnesses described the incident as complete chaos.
No serious injuries were reported. However, it took hours to clear the scene.
