BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Six juveniles have been arrested for allegedly participating in a fight that prompted a mass evacuation of the Mall of Louisiana.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reports that the male and female juveniles ranged in ages from 13-15 years old. They were charged with Remaining After Being Forbidden and Disturbance by Fistic Encounter. Two were also charged with Resisting an Officer.
The incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 5 at roughly 6:00 p.m . A teen sent an invitation for a “meet and greet” via Instagram. Hundreds of teens converged at the mall and at some point a massive fight broke out, prompting the evacuation and closure.
Although no weapons were discovered, rumors of a gun being involved sparked panic among shoppers in the mall, causing a frantic exodus. Witnesses described the incident as complete chaos.
No serious injuries were reported. However, it took hours to clear the scene.
The Mall of Louisiana has refused to comment. The incident is still under investigation.
