GRETNA, LA (NBC33) — A 65-year-old man was locked up for allegedly stalking children at a BMX track in Gretna.
The Gretna Police Department reports that several complaints were called in regarding a man known as “Uncle Don,” who they say was repeatedly exhibiting unwanted attention to the children at the track. They claim the man was videotaping and photographing the children, then attempted to lure them to his home in New Orleans. Officials say the suspect was also observed caressing a child’s hair.
An investigation was launched and the suspect was identified as Don Fernandez. Records indicate that Fernandez was previously arrested back in 1997 by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi for Unlawful Touching of a Child.
Police obtained a search warrant and found images from the BMX track located in his home. They say numerous images of the children were found in his bathroom.
Fernandez was arrested for Stalking and was booked into the Orleans Parish Correctional Center.
