THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — Two men were arrested for drug possession after they attempted to run from police during a traffic stop.
The Thibodaux Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Thursday, Jan. 3 at roughly 7:30 p.m. We’re told the suspect vehicle was observed failing to use a turn signal at Louise Street and Parish Road. An officer attempted a traffic stop, but when the vehicle pulled over, the passenger jumped out and started running.
Officers gave chase and found the man several blocks away. Roderick Carter, 37, was found to be in possession of MDMA and marijuana. He was charged with Resisting an Officer, Possession with Intent to Distribute MDMA, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a bond of $51,000.
A second passenger, Elvert Beamon, 26, was also arrested for Resisting an Officer, Flight From an Officer, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Two Failure to Appear Warrants. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a bond of $30,250.
The driver of the vehicle admitted to have been smoking marijuana and was released with citations after he passed a field sobriety test.
