WALKER,LA(NBC33) — Over the past few weeks there have been loud noises and ground vibrations in areas of Walker. A company that's engaged in exploration for oil and gas is to blame. Residents are up in arms about what’s going on, and what’s supposed to continue for more than a week.
“It sounds like gun shot basically and sends the vibration through the air, sounds like a loud fire works shooting right outside the house,” says David Jones. David Jones works at night and sleeps during the day, but lately sleep is harder to come by. "Every time I hear on of the explosions off I literally hear my house creaking."
The noises are coming from a company doing seismic testing, testing that’s more than just a loud noises. "One time in particular I remember it’s like the house shivered you know,” said another annoyed resident, Margaret Lott.
"It's pretty annoying I am just hoping its not doing any permanent damage to the houses or anything around here," says Jones. The vibrations coming from the ground are what have been really alarming residents, particularly Debbie Strader. "One particular time I can remember it vibrating the windows in the house but other than that mostly just the sounds you can feel some vibration of the ground," noted Strader.
But a couple of weeks before the testing even began, Walker residents were asked for permission to begin. "We told them we weren't interested but apparently that really didn't matter cause doesn't matter how far away they are it seems to affect us regardless," stated Jones.
And with numerous complaints to the Walker Police Department, they reassured residents by addressing the situation on their Face book. But people like Margaret says, they should have been notified in a more timely fashion, not weeks after.
"I would like to know what's going on because out here its nothing but woods and you don't know what's back there."
The main area of testing is the area south of 1-12 between Juban road and South Satsuma Rd. These seismic testing activities have been approved by the jurisdictional regulatory authorities.
