BATON ROUGE, LA — An employee with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was arrested today for Domestic Abuse Battery.
Michael Abernathy, 35, was employed with the Sheriff's Office for the past 13 years working as a detective in Armed Robbery and Burglary. He also worked at the parish prison and in uniform patrol.
According to reports, Abernathy allegedly physically abused his live-in girlfriend in December while drinking. Detectives observed several bruises to the victim’s body and her eyes corroborating her statement of abuse. EBRSO detectives were contacted yesterday in reference to the incident, and took Abernathy into custody this afternoon following the conclusion of the investigation.
Abernathy was terminated and will be booked this evening into parish prison on the above listed charge.
