NEW ORLEANS, LA (WDSU) — A recount has been ordered by an East Baton Rouge Parish judge on the controversial tolls on the Crescent City Connection.
The tolls, which were approved by voters in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes, would be extended by another 20 years under the measure.
More than 308,000 ballots were cast by voters.
Initially after the Election Day count, it appeared the "no" votes had successfully defeated renewing the tolls. But a later tally the next day showed the "yes" votes led by a slim eight-vote margin.
After hand counting mail-in ballots and verification, the referendum passed by a margin of just 16 votes.
