Ascension Parish (NBC33) — Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. Col. Bobby Webre reports the shooting of a Donaldsonville man during an attempted robbery Friday afternoon.
Deputies responded to the area of 5th Street and McKinley Street in Donaldsonville where they found Jerry Wesley, 30, of 718 St. Vincent Street in Donaldsonville lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his right thigh.
Wesley told deputies that three male suspects wearing all black clothing tried to rob him at a mobile home on 5th Street but he was unable to identify any facial descriptions of the suspects.
Wesley was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Prevost Memorial Hospital and later transported to a Baton Rouge area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
During the investigation it was learned that Wesley was visiting a friend at 702 5th Street where they both were smoking marijuana and watching television when three suspects entered through the front door that was partially open.
The homeowners stated that two of the three suspects were carrying black semi-automatic handguns, and Wesley attempted to escape through the back door of the residence and shots were fired at him while he was fleeing from the residence onto St. Vincent Street.
The homeowners, who were later identified as Renato “Dewayne” Givens, and Tremaine James, described the subjects as being dark-skinned, wearing all black including their shoes, and they appeared to be in their early twenties. One of the suspects appeared to be approximately 5’5” and another approximately 5’8”.
Through further investigation it was learned that Givens was looking to purchase marijuana from a suspect who lives in Plaquemine and goes by the name “Jr.”
An altercation occurred and “Jr.” pulled out a pistol and began shooting, along with another suspect who pulled out an assault rifle and began shooting.
“Jr.” was later identified as Raynard Maurice Parker Jr., 20, of 23705 Mulberry St., Plaquemine. A warrant was obtained on Parker Jr. for two counts of attempted first degree murder and illegal use of weapons.
A background check on Parker revealed that he has a violent history where he was arrested in January 2012 for attempted second degree murder, and arrested this past November for a home invasion.
Parker should be considered armed and dangerous and the other two suspects involved remain unidentified at this time.
Givens was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail for intent to distribute Schedule I CDS. James was arrested and also booked into the Ascension Parish Jail with fugitive from another agency.
