NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Congress is expected to debate stiffer gun control laws in the new year, and that has some gun enthusiasts buying up semi-automatic weapons before restrictions are added.
After recent shootings involving assault rifles, the mere talk of a ban has people rushing to gun shops with credit cards in hand. Workers say customers are afraid these types of guns will be outlawed in the wake of the shooting in Newtown. Certain ammunition and high-capacity magazines could also be in the congressional cross-hairs.

Democratic Senator Tom Harkin has called for a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines, and more of a focus on mental health services. Republican Senator Chuck Grassley agrees the debate should be not just about guns, but about mental health issues as well.
