ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, LA — Marathon Petroleum Company recently presented two St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools each with $10,000 to aid them in their recovery from Hurricane Isaac.
Marathon Petroleum Company Area Manager Tara Hensley presented the checks to the principals of East St. John High School and Lake Pontchartrain Elementary. Both schools have been displaced since September because of flood damage to their campuses. Grades 10-12 at East St. John High School are housed at the old Leon Godchaux Junior High School in Reserve, while all the students at Lake Pontchartrain Elementary have been placed on several campuses in the district according to grade levels.
“We know it has been a challenge for these students to recover from the damages caused by the storm. The many employees of Marathon Petroleum wanted to do something to specifically help these two schools that have suffered the worst,” Hensley said.
East St. John High School Principal Patricia Triche and Lake Pontchartrain Elementary Principal Sylvia Bailey said the monies would be spent on teaching resources and curriculum materials to help advance learning on their campuses.
