BATON ROUGE, LA — On Thursday, Dec. 20, Cenikor held a dedication for those who helped make these improvements. Mayor Melvin Holden and Senator Sharon Weston Broome were on hand as Cenikor Foundation unveiled their new state-of-the-art gymnasium at the Baton Rouge facility, 2414 Bunker Hill Drive. After the dedication, Mayor Holden, Senator Broome and others shot a few hoops on the new basketball court. The gymnasium has been fully refurbished including a new roof and heating and cooling system.
The renovations to the inside of the gymnasium were provided by a donation from the Charles and Josephine Lamar Memorial Fund of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. The Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation donated funds to replace the roof on the gymnasium. Through an East Baton Rouge Parish, City of Baton Rouge Office of Community Development grant, Cenikor was able to replace the cooling tower for the entire facility.
“Residents are excited to have an area to exercise and be competitive. This will be a great place for our residents to enjoy during the winter months and the sweltering summer months,” said Doug Richards, Baton Rouge Facility Director.
