BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A federal judge ruled that a Baton Rouge man was not guilty due to insanity after he was arrested for locking himself in the cockpit of an airplane at the Baton Rouge airport.
Andrew Alessi was found not guilty of the crime that carries a possible 10 year prison sentence. The judge said Alessi was “actively psychotic, hyper-religious, manic and delusional.”
No one was hurt during the incident, which happened on August 22, 2012.
Alessi is receiving additional mental evaluations and treatment at a federal prison hospital. He will remain there until physicians determine it is safe for him to be released.
