BATON ROUGE, LA — Over the last month, Westdale Middle School students in Glenny Riess’ Fine Arts class have been knitting hats for a battered women’s shelter in Baton Rouge to give as special holiday gifts.
Riess incorporated the knitting unit in her class to teach her students about the gift of giving.
“I like doing things to help people that are having a bad time, especially during the holiday season,” Darius Paul, 7th grade student, said.
“I plan to continue activities to teach my students about the importance of giving back to the community,” Riess said.
Another student who helped knit the hats was Samantha Holiday.
