NBC News — The Pope said friday that the traditional western family was being threatened to, quote "its foundations." In a Christmas address to Vatican staff, the Pope threw his full weight behind a study by a controversial French rabbi who wrote that gay marriage is an attempt to deny sexual identity and erase sexual differences.
The Pope told his staff that marriage is the union of one man and one woman and was the blueprint of human existence. The Vatican has gone on the offensive recently in response to strong gains for gay marriage and equal rights in the United States and Europe, using every possible opportunity to denounce it through Papal speeches or editorials in its newspaper or on its radio programs.
